The first two sugar mills portrayed in this documentary , Obdulio Morales and Simon Bolivar, are located In the north of the province of Sancti Spiritus, a mere 4 km distance from each other, and connected by a narrow gauge railway system in 2ft 3 1/2in (705mm). We visit the town of Moron, on the northernmost point of the railway line from Ciego de Avila, where the horse drawn carriage and the bicycle dominate the main road, and Moron railway station where formar BUDD diesel rail cars serve as passenger coaches of Ferrocarriles de Cuba trains. At C.A.I. Ciro Redondo, in Standard gauge, located south of Moron, half way to Ciego de Avila , huge engines with a wheel arrangement 2'8'0, built by American Locomotive Company and Baldwin in the years 1919 to 1922 are on shunting duty on the vast mill grounds. At C.A.I. Brasil, located in the northeastern part of the Camaguey province, with a Standard gauge railway system, a number of 5 fireless engines with a wheel arrangement 0'4'0 and 0'6'0 , built in the years 1920 to 1927 by Henschel and Baldwin are on daily duty during the months of Zafra. A most amazing spectacle!
